A former contestant on America’s Next Top Model Shares Her Views On The Best Women’s Hair Salon In NYC

The hustle and bustle is the best part of the Lower East Side and the premium unisex barbershop in NYC – Orchard & Ludlow is right in the heart of it.

The L.E.S. is home to free spirits, entrepreneurs and models, so it’s only natural that they are amongst the clientele of Orchard & Ludlow.

Every so often clients will grace the NYC hair salon for a hair care service or to visit the art gallery. Most recently, influencer and model Keenyah Hill visited Orchard & Ludlow and shared details about her modeling and hair journey.

A former contestant on America’s Next Top Model, Hill’s approach to both her hair and modeling is about having confidence.

When she was younger, Keenyah Hill suffered from a low self-esteem and bullying. “I was made fun of really badly,” she said. “I had braces, glasses, I loved school, I was a super nerd. I was doing what I was supposed to do but it wasn’t cool being like that.”

She distracted herself from that with her growing interest in the fashion industry. “I started idolizing confident women who were models,” she explained. “I fell in love with the power they had not necessarily had in their looks. That’s what made me want to start modeling.”

When discussing her hair journey at Orchard & Ludlow, one of the best women’s hair salon NYC has to offer, Hill shared that in high school she consistently wore weaves.

However, once she started modeling, agencies stated their preference for black girls with natural hair. In fact, a few years ago when she was modeling at Paris Fashion Week, Hill was advised to cut all her hair off and she didn’t think twice about it.

“I’m so passionate about modeling, I’ll do whatever. I kind of wish I had an even more drastic look on [America’s Next Top Model] because I’m with it,” she enthused. “I came back from France and just shaved it off and I’ve kept it ever since. It’s awesome.”

Even with a shaved head, Hill still experiments with different looks. Could this be a hint to the next best women’s haircut in NYC?

“When I first shaved my hair off, everybody loved it so much and I did cinnamon. Which was gorgeous because it complimented my caramel skin tone,” she expressed. “Then I went black because my hair was relaxed, so I had to stick with black. But now this color pink is my whole new thing.”
