Online learning with none of the headache: Dearest makes their move.

Dearest, an early childhood education company, now offers an online learning option designed for kids ages 3-12.

JANUARY 22, 2021 – Eiko Nakazawa, the founder and CEO of Dearest and a former Sony executive, and Jessica Wertheim, previously of the NYC Department of Education and Dearest’s COO, recently launched Dearest’s newest venture: an online learning platform that matches highly vetted, expert educators with families looking for a safe, affordable alternative to in-person teaching or tutoring.

The personalized, online learning platform is the brainchild of Nakazawa and Wertheim, both Stanford University graduates, who leveraged their knowledge and expertise in the fields of child development, teaching and learning, and technology, to ensure that every teacher who works with Dearest families is a true pedagogical expert and adept in the art of online instruction. Collaboration is key to student success and Dearest’s educators work closely with families to tailor lessons, activities, and projects to each students’ needs.

“Understanding that my son’s cognitive and social-emotional would be overwhelmingly shaped by his youngest years has weighed heavily on me throughout this pandemic,” said Nakazawa.

“I, like countless other parents, didn’t feel as though there was an effective, supplemental learning option available for young kids to make up for all that lost classroom time. This platform aims to provide what I felt was sorely lacking in the early childhood education ecosystem.”

Families can review the credentials and certifications of Dearest educators, message them with any questions or information, and book lessons on-demand, 24 hours a day. Educators teach via a secure link and send progress reports and extension activities to parents at the conclusion of every session. Parents looking for subjects not typically taught in classrooms can access prerecorded courses on Mindfulness Art, Design Thinking, Emotional Intelligence, and more on Dearest’s Academy site.

The Covid-19 pandemic has laid bare the challenges that virtual instruction presents, both for educators and students. But by actively involving teachers, learning experts, and families across the country in the creation of their platform, Dearest has successfully reimagined what online learning could be.
